Question:

Greetings. I am looking for a roof rack system for 2025 GMC Sierra 3500 crew regular bed. Needs to have cross bars compatible with Hulavator and bars wide enough for two hullavators. What are my options? I currently have Thule square bar system on 2012 F150. System is ~8 years old. Not sure if anything can be reused, but that is secondary to first understanding whats available. Thule website shows no compatible product for Sierra 3500. So wondering if Rhino-Rack bar is compatible with Hullavator. Thanks in advance.

Hello Keith, thanks for reaching out. We do have a roof rack for your 2025 GMC Sierra 3500 Crew Cab that will allow you to carry two Hullavators. The main thing to keep in mind here is the dynamic weight capacity of the roof rack. The capacity is 165 lbs and the Hullavators weigh about 40 lbs each. So the combined weight of your kayaks cannot be more than 85 lbs for this to work.

For the roof rack I recommend the Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack # Y86KB. This is a complete roof rack system. It comes with 70" aero crossbars with top channels. These will be long enough to hold the two Hullavators, and it will have the necessary overhang so the lift assist will not contact the side of the truck.

@JesseM. Yes it did, with one issue. I did go with HD bars though. Sourcing was a bit of a mess due to sale pricing impacting availabilty of the foot pads for most resellers online, so I did find and buy local. Only issue so far is that taking the system on and off a few times resulted in roof collapsing a little bit under one foot. These things get cranked down very tight to get a torque limit click. Much tighter than Thules on former vehicle ever clamped down. This happened prior to ever putting any weight on the bars. No further collapse has occurred even with kayaks loaded. Dissapointed with that on a brand new vehicle.

@KeithM Thanks for sharing! I definitely understand the disappointment. I have never heard of that happening without a load on the crossbars. Hopefully no further damage occurs and you are able to keep using the roof rack without issue! Feel free to come back anytime you need anything.
