Is It Safe To Inflate A 5.30-12 Tire To 80 PSI?

Question:
I have a Carlstar trailer tire 5.30-12 tread is 3 ply nylon cord, side wall 2 ply nylon cord. Max load 1,050. It says 80PSI. Is it safe to inflate it that high? Seems a little scary.

Hello Alan, thanks for reaching out. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the max PSI listed on the sidewall. They are not like vehicle/car tires in that regard. Vehicle tires are designed more with ride comfort in mind, while trailer tires are designed to carry weight. Trailer tires are only rated for their max load when they are inflated to their max PSI. Otherwise, the actual max capacity is unknown. It is completely safe and normal for the 5.30-12 tires to be inflated to 80 PSI. It does seem a little scary but I can assure you it will be just fine.

Hi Alan, did inflating your trailer tire to 80 PSI work out for you? I'm curious to know because it could help others feel more confident about doing the same with their trailer tires.
