Will 13.5K Btu Advent AC Replace GE AC Unit on RV?

Updated 09/26/2025 | Published 04/29/2025

Question:

I am helping some friends with their RV. They have a 2022 Grand Design travel trailer with a GE 13,500 BTU air conditioner that needs replaced. The unit has a thermostat that is wall mounted and uses a standard 6 pin connector. Will the Advent ACM135B be a good replacement?

Hey Jason, thanks for reaching out!

There are some brands we know will work with the Advent Air RV Air Conditioner # ACM135B as a plug and play, but GE isn't one of them. You're more than welcome to try it out, but you might want to have a knowledgeable friend or tech on speed dial in case the plugs don't match up or are pinned differently.

Worst-case you'll need to also need to get the Air Distribution Box w/ Wall-Mounted Thermostat # ACRG15 if you can't get this to work with your GE wiring.

I would say to just use a GE AC unit, but they're all converted to the R32 system already, so you'd have to get a completely new system anyways.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Jason, did you end up trying the Advent air conditioner with your friends' GE setup? I'm curious to know if it worked out or if you had to go with the air distribution box and thermostat. Your experience could be really helpful for others in a similar situation!

@JonG Yes we did end up using the Advent AC unit. It's been a few months so I don't remember all the details now. I do know that the long mounting bolts were not the same size. Fortunately we have an RV repair shop close by and they had some on hand. It took a little studying of wiring diagrams to make sure everything matched up. Also, the coil anti-freeze thermister had to be swapped over to make the new unit run.

@JasonS Well I'm glad you were able to get it all figured out and your AC up and running!
