Mid-Range Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Toyota Prius with Naked Roof

Updated 04/28/2025 | Published 04/19/2025

Question:

Im looking for a roof rack from my 2009 Gen 2 Toyota Prius. Naked roof. Minimum bar length 50inch but Id consider up to 60. Budget is a consideration but quality and minimizing road noise too. I plan to carry kayaks, canoe and possibly a box.

Hey Marty, thanks for reaching out!

I recommend picking up the Inno Aero Roof Rack # IN26VV for your 2009 Toyota Prius.

This system has all of the good quality that more noticeable brands do, but at a lower price-point. The aero-style crossbars cut down on wind noise and drag when compared to the traditional square and round bars, and the whole system is fairly easy to install.

Attached is an installation video of this on a 2014 Prius v for you to check out.

Do you already have a cargo box or carriers for your boats?

Hey John, I do not have a kayak carrier or storage box yet (although I may have access to these). Are they fairly interchangeable between rack/crossbar brands? How do that attach and adjust (left-right, fore-aft) on this Inno system?

@Marty Kayak carriers and storage boxes should all mount to the Inno roof rack just fine, but that can vary a little based on the brand and age of the carriers. The mounting brackets should have some kind of adjustability as well, so it can fit a variety of roof rack configurations. For example, the Thule Force 3 Cargo Box # TH47SA uses adjustable clamps that will fit the Inno system perfectly, and the etrailer Kayak Carrier Kit # e98878 uses universal clamps that will also fit.
