Does etrailer 5K Electric A-Frame Jack Need an In-Line Fuse?

Question:

Hi. Does this Jack need an inline fuse? One of your videos says to install an inline fuse kit and the other says that there is no need for it due to a built in circuit breaker? Also can you tell me the the outside diameter of the Jack housing that goes thru the a- frame. Thank you.

Hey Jeffrey, thanks for reaching out!

The etrailer Electric Trailer Jack # e55ZV does not require an additional fuse/relay as it has an auto-reset on built-in, and the outer diameter of the jack tube is 2-1/2".

Are you looking to replace an older electric jack, or looking to upgrade from manual to electric?

Hi Jon. Thanks for the quick response. I have a 2015 Stealth Aluminum Enclosed trailer. It has a 16 foot box, dual axles and GVWR of 6990 pounds. I never carry more than a Mini Cooper or Can Am Spyder. So my gross is never more than 5000 pounds. I’m looking to replace my manual Jack with an electric one. The frame is 5 1/2 inches thick and has a lower plate welded to it for extra Jack support. The diameter of the outside tube is 2 1/4 inches so this Jack would mean I would have to enlarge the lower hole. Can you suggest a couple of other electric jacks that would have the same features and fit my frame. Thanks

@JeffJ Jon. Not sure if I really need a 5000# Jack. Do you think a 3500# Jack would be sufficient?

@JeffJ Thanks for the extra info! In that case, a 3.5K trailer jack will do just fine, and I recommend checking out the Ultra-Fab Electric A-Frame Jack # UF38-944014. This actually has a 4K lift capacity, a 2-1/4" outer tubing, and the travel speed is faster than most other jacks so you won't be standing around waiting for it to lift and lower for as long.

@JonG Thanks Jon. . The only thing is that it doesn’t have the extendable foot. That really comes in handy. Any other suggestions?
