Looking For Air Bag Kit And Compressor Fir 1997 Ford F-350 With 4" Lift

Updated 10/27/2025 | Published 03/21/2025

Question:

Hello, I am seeking guidance on enhancing the towing performance of my 1997 Ford F-350 Crew Cab Long Bed, 7.3L Power Stroke Diesel, 4x4, single rear wheel. The vehicle is primarily used for towing a 38-foot travel trailer weighing approximately 9,500 lbs. Current Vehicle Specifications: • Suspension: Stock configuration with solid front axle • Lift: 4-inch suspension lift Objectives: 1. Air Helper Springs: I aim to integrate Firestone Ride-Rite air helper springs to improve load support and stability during towing. Considering the existing 4-inch lift, I seek guidance on compatibility and any additional components or modifications required, such as lift spacers, to ensure proper fitment and functionality. 2. Air Compressor System: To efficiently manage air pressure adjustments, I am interested in installing a compatible Firestone Air Command air compressor system. Considering the vehicle’s frequent towing usage, I am particularly interested in understanding the differences between the Standard Duty, Heavy Duty, and Extreme Duty compressor options, as well as the benefits of single versus dual path configurations. Specific Inquiries: • Compatibility: Are the Firestone Ride-Rite air helper springs compatible with my 1997 F-350, considering the existing 4-inch lift? • Compressor Recommendation: Which Firestone Air Command compressor system would best suit my towing needs? If you could provide a complete parts list to make this a successful system for my objects. I appreciate your expertise on this matter and look forward to your recommendations on the appropriate Firestone Ride-Rite kit, air compressor system, and any supplementary parts required for my truck’s configuration. Thank you for your assistance. Best regards,

Hello Adrian, thanks for reaching out.

For starters, it is possible to add Firestone Ride Rite Air Bags to your 1997 F350 Crew Cab Long Bed Diesel 4x4 SRW with the 4" lift. The correct kit is part # F2071.

You will need to use a spacer kit along with the air bags to compensate for the lift. A 4" suspension lift does not always directly equate to a 4" spacer though. In some cases a 4" lift would require a 2" spacer # F2366 or 3" spacer # F2368 but configurations can be different. A lot of folks would just order both spacers and return the one they don't need. Or you can order the air bag kit, install the brackets, then subtract the height of the air bag and that will tell you what spacer you will need.

Also, you will want to measure the distance from the outside of the frame to the inside of the tire on your truck. This distance must be at least 7-1/2" to accommodate the air bags.

For the compressor, you do have options. It really comes down to how you prefer to control things. A lot of people these days are doing wireless compressors like the Air Lift WirelessONE # AL25980. This is generally what I recommend since the app control is convenient and you get real time diagnostics and towing info. The choice of compressor does come down to your preferences though, so if there are specific features you are looking for just let me know.

Take a look at the videos I linked for you below. Reply below with any comments or questions and I am happy to get back to you.

Hey Adrian, how did things go with adding the Firestone Ride-Rite air bags and the Air Lift WirelessONE compressor to your F-350? Did the spacers you chose line up well with your 4-inch lift? Your results could really help others setting up a similar towing setup.
