What 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter Hitch do I Need for My 2019 Ford F250 with Short Bed?

Updated 03/06/2025 | Published 03/01/2025

Question:

Hi, I have a 2019 f250 4 door short bed with a gooseneck hitch. I’m looking to replace the 5th wheel hitch on the the 2007 keystone raptor. Camper is rated at 14k and is 33 ft long tandem axle. I’m looking for help with clearance because I have a short bed. I’m undecided between the Reese or the shocker. Could you tell me which has the most offset and if the Reese has any at all. I need to make this purchase in the next few days. Thank you

Hello Shane,

Great question, and I am going to need you pin box number to ensure we are getting you the right part number. If you are unsure of your pin box number, please feel free to send me the information off of the sticker on your current Pin Box so I can get it from Lippert.

Since your 2019 F250 is a short bed you are definitely going to need an offset. The Shocker 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pinbox for Lippert 1621/0719 and Rhino Box - 24K GTW - 6K TW # SHK23MR has a 3" offset. I attached an image of install on a F150 with a 5'7" bed from the shocker website.

The Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter - 20,000 lbs # RP85FR does not have an offset, instead it would be recommended to use an offset gooseneck ball in the bed of your truck. I am not sure what kind of system you have, so here are your options:

- If you have the OEM prepackage: 5" offset Gen-Y Hitch Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Ford OEM Puck Systems # GY43XR

- B&W Turnover Gooseneck (if you have the square hole): 4" offset # BWGNXA4085

- Bulldog, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, and Reese Hide-A-Goose gooseneck: 5" offset # 19308

- Curt double lock gooseneck: 4" offset # C602

If it were me, I would go with the Shocker. As you can see from the picture it works in the 5'7" bed with no issues, so it would be great for you 6 3/4' bed.

If you waned to double check your clearance, here is the formula to to do it:

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center (or gooseneck ball) to the truck cab
B = Offset used (slider clearance or Sidewinder offset)
C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2

You can comment your pin box number below so I can confirm the right part number for you. You said you need to get this purchased in the next couple of days, is this for a fun trip or a work trip?

@ShaneD My pleasure Shane. If you do not already have safety chains, the Safety Chain Kit for Shocker Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck QuickAir Hitch - 42" Long - 24K lbs # SHK35MR are the right ones. I know some people use their existing hardware, it is however recommended to use new hardware as they do stretch over time. You will need to source the Grade 8 hardware bolts, and lock washers locally, I am going to email Lippert with that number so I can get your pin box number. I will let you know as soon as I get a response.
