Can GearSpace 34 Enclosed Cargo Carrier # HGK819 Be Used On 2023 Tesla Model X?

Updated 02/24/2025 | Published 02/20/2025

Question:

Do you have any experience with the GearSpace 34 on a Tesla Model X 2023, will it fit. Also do you sell a hitch lock or a lock to prevent somebody from sliding the entire unit off the rails?

Hello Vail, thanks for reaching out. The GearSpace 34 Enclosed Cargo Carrier # HGK819 can be used on virtually any vehicle with a 2" hitch, although this is not something we have specifically tested on a Tesla Model X. I do suggest you measure and make sure your hitch has adequate clearance. As long as the distance from your hitch pin hole to the farthest edge of the bumper is less than 10", you will have room for the carrier.

The carrier itself weight 160 lbs, and has a 300 lb carrying capacity. The hitch on your Tesla should have a tongue weight rating between 500 and 750 lbs, so you will have plenty of capacity for the carrier and a good bit of gear.

The videos I linked below will show you the GearSpace Carrier in more detail. Feel free to reach out and reply below with any other questions.

The owners manual says that the downward weight capacity on the hitch is 120 pounds (vertical load), if your product itself weighs 160 pounds that would mean it could not be safely used, am I understanding this correctly? Thanks for your expertise. Also you did not answer the lock question

@Mail Oh wow. That is a super low capacity. I am kind of shocked by that, but then again it is a Tesla. In that case, you are correct. The GearSpace carrier could not be safely used with your hitch. One option would be to replace your hitch with an aftermarket hitch like the Draw-Tite # 76143 which has a 750 lbs tongue weight (vertical load) rating. As for the lock, you can add the Snap-On Lock # ACC3250 to the hitch pin that comes with the carrier. This way the carrier will be locked to your hitch. You can also lock the carrier shut to protect your gear. Let me know if you need anything else.
