Can Demco Autoslide Head Be Turned Manually
Updated 10/30/2025 | Published 02/13/2025 >
Question:
I installed Demco Autoslide 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider, Part Number: DM79GV. After installation, I noticed that the head does not rotate manually at all. Is this normal? I wonder if there is any locking screw for shipping that I need to remove before use etc. Thank you

Hey Sungrok! What you're experiencing with the # DM79GV is normal. It takes a lot of force to move it manually, to the point that it really can't be done. You may read about people using tools to get enough leverage and force it but I don't recommend following their example. You really don't want to cause damage to the hitch. The only way you're going to have enough force to turn the head is with your 5th wheel trailer hooked up. Keep this in mind when you disconnect as well since it can make things difficult if you disconnect at an angle.

Hey Sungrok, how did things go once you tried rotating the Demco Autoslide head with your trailer connected? It’d be great to hear if that worked as expected. Your update could make it easier for others setting up the same hitch.
