How Weather-Resistant is the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar for 2" Hitch Receivers?

Question:

How weather resistant is the e38FV given you say it can be left on the vehicle ? If I leave it on all year will it rust/deteriorate ? Also can I put my Ford 1L2Z-17F000-CA hitch receiver cover back on with the e38FV installed ? Thanks !

Hey Jeff, thanks for reaching out!

The etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Collar for 2" Hitch Receivers # e38FV is steel with a matte black powder coat. This is similar to what we have on our trailer hitches, and I really like how durable it is (I've had 2 of our hitches installed on my vehicles).

With that being said, it is a powder coat and so if it gets scratched up really good the exposed steel will be prone to rusting so you'll need to keep an eye on it and hit it with some paint if you get scratches on it. So, it can be left on all year, but you'll want to keep an eye on it just like you would your other powder-coated accessories.

Your Ford cover might fit back in place, but from what I could see online it kind of looks like your cover is supposed to fit snug over the collar on the hitch receiver, and that won't be possible with this anti-rattle device. Something that fits more flush, like the etrailer Rubber Hitch Cover # 22282, would be a better fit for this application.

Do you liv in a place where things are really prone to rusting?
