Recommended RV Storage Cover For A Harsh Minnesota Winter Climate

Updated 02/02/2025 | Published 01/20/2025

Question:

Im confused. The covercraft website says not to include the A/c height when measuring, but some of your comment responses say to include the A/c height. Is that something etrailer found out about the Adco measurements? Covercraft recommends the designer series sfs Aqua shed for northern climates. I am in Minnesota which is definitely a harsh climate minus the uv rays and heat. has etrailer found this one to be good for a Minnesota winter storage? or is there another you suggest? I almost bought one until I read the reviews from lowest to highest. granted that some are florida/California/AZ high UV areas, but the others make it sound like they ped the quality. thanks

Hey Mike,

Whether or not you have to measure the height of AC, or add a 1' to length, is going to depend on the manufacturer/model of the cover. Covercraft says not to account for the AC since they've already designed to cover to accommodate vents, AC's, and other roof mounted accessories. The AquaShed would be a good option for a extremely wet climates, but is not as effective in dry climates with high UV.

The etrailer RV Cover for Travel Trailers up to 24' Long # e57VV would require you to add 1' to your measured length to accommodate the AC unit's added height to the trailer. This cover is designed for both dry and wet climates. We've had one of these on our training trailer for about six months now and since we didn't have one designed to match the front toy hauler storage area on this trailer we just built up a 2x4 frame to hold the front of the cover up. The gap between this frame and the body of the trailer allowed for a pool of water to sit on the cover when it rained and didn't permeate through, which said a lot to me about the quality.

In my experience most covers are going to wear down after a few years of use so rips and tears are common regardless of the brand. Having worked with both brands I do lean more to etrailer covers because they offer a stronger UV resistance with what appears to me to be the same amount of water resistance as the Covercraft options.

What is the year/make/model of your trailer? Have you already measured or are you just starting your search?

Thank you for your reply. I see now why your instructions do not agree. It would help in the future you would qualify your instructions for measuring to the brand as you did in the email. Your email makes much more sense. I have a Jayco X23B and lost my wonderful deal with a local farmer to park it in one of his barns in the winter. It would need to hold up to hi winds and lots of snow. I am a little worried with the stored trailers, they all seem to be ripped at the gutter spouts and attachments on the bottom of the trailer.

@MikeD It looks like the length for a Jayco X23B would be approximately 24.5' in total length. Assuming you have a 3' tongue that'd leave you with 21.5' of body length so the etrailer # e57VV (up to 24') would be the correct length. This cover comes with gutter covers with Velcro straps so they hold tight and prevent the trailer cover from getting caught and tearing.
