Recommended Gooseneck Hitch for a 1953 Chevy 6400 Dually

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/26/2024

Question:

Hello, I have a 1953 Chevy 6400 dually i.e., the 2 ton version - GVWR plate has 16,000 lbs.. Between the left and right frame at the rear axle I have 35.5 between the frame rails and it is flat - very, very similar to the 2024 Chevy 4500. I am looking for an under bed gooseneck trailer hitch, something like part numbers: C611-624 or BWGNRK1016. How wide of frame rails are you expecting with the above two? My flatbed sits about 7 higher than the truck frame for tire clearance, Its hard to tell how high the above two are from the frame. At worse I could go with P/N BWGNRK1500, but it would be convenient to have a prebuilt solution. Thoughts?

Hey Joe! The B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch item # BWGNRK1016 and the Curt EZr Double Lock item # C611-624 are designed to fit frames that measure 38-1/4" from inside rail to inside rail and 44" from the outside of the rails. So those are not going to work and as you already know there's nothing custom designed for a 1953 Chevy 6400 dually.

The B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch for Flatbed Trucks item # BWGNRK1500 is going to be your best bet. It measures 6” x 8” and sits at 4-3/8” tall. You'll need to fabricate some extra bracing to get it installed. I have linked the installation instructions below so you can see how to get it set up.

I have linked a diagram below to show you the dimensions of the B&W item # BWGNRK1500.

Hey Joe, how did things go with the B&W Turnoverball hitch for your flatbed Chevy? Were you able to get it mounted with the extra bracing you mentioned? Your update could make it easier for others working on older trucks like yours.
