Will the Curt Gooseneck Hitch # C60642 Install in a Different Spot Than the B&W # BWGNRK1020?

Updated 12/20/2024 | Published 12/19/2024

Question:

I would like to know where the Curt 60642 turn over ball sits in correlation to the rear axle. I have a customer with a 2022 GMC Sierra K2500 standard bed who is unhappy with where the ball is on his BandW turnover ball sits, as it is mounted behind the rear axle. I have looked and for the life of me cannot find anything that shows if this kit is further forward than the BandW. I know that on the long box it is directly over the axle, but the short box has the cross rail on the bed that is directly above the axle.

Hello Nick,

The Hitch ball for the Curt # C60642 will sit above or slightly forward of the rear truck axle. I attached 2 pictures of the underbody of the 2022 GMC Sierra, as you can see that the Curt # C60642 sits in the same spot as the B&W # BWGNRK1020.

Is this on a short bed truck? The reason I ask, you say that it is mounted in the same spot as the B&W hitch but on a short box the B&W is behind the rear axle. Is there a way I could get measurement's for center of the ball to tail gate on a short bed. I am sorry to be such a pain, I just have a customer who is quite frustrated with his current set up (B&W) and I would love to find a resolution for him.

@NickL I know that the B&W is installed in a short bed (bed less than 8’ long) is 37-1/8" from the rear of the truck bed to the hole. We do not have the exact measurement of the Curt on our site, I am going to reach out to my contact at Curt to see if he can supply me with that exact measurement. I will let you know as soon as I have that information. Everything that I see from the instructions (attached below) the ball will be about in the same exact spot. I will let you know as soon as I hear back.

@NickL I heard back from the tech at Curt, they were not able to supply me with that measurement either, I am very sorry. He did give a little more insight though, this was his reply: Unfortunately we do not have that measurement as #60642 can only go in one spot on the truck. It sits between the two cross beams on the vehicle, above the differential and shock mount. I hope that helps, at least you can get under the truck and see if its in the same spot.
