Can Jayco 382FLRB Fifth Wheel Trailer be Towed with 18k Demco Fifth Wheel Hitch

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/19/2024

Question:

Hi, I have a Demco 18K slider hitch and I am looking at a Jayco 382FLRB 5th wheel trailer. The GVWR of the trailer is a little over 17,500 lbs. Will I be OK with the hitch that I have or should I move up to a 21K slider.

Hey Jeffry, so you are totally safe using an 18k Demco slider hitch like the part # DM69GV at 17,500 lbs. 17.5k would be the absolute max your trailer would weigh which is well within the capacity of an 18k hitch.

If for some reason you'd be over 18k then yes you'd want the 21k version part # DM89GV but basically you are perfectly fine to be at the full capacity of a hitch and you're totally safe as they rate the hitches pretty conservatively.

Hey Jeffry, how did things go towing your Jayco 5th wheel with the 18K Demco slider hitch? It’d be great to hear if the setup handled the weight as expected. Your update could make it easier for others comparing the 18K and 21K hitches.
