Which Type Of Sealant Should Be Used When Replacing Trim On A 2020 Kodiak Cub 185MB

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/14/2024

Question:

Im looking at videos and instructions to replace the worn vinyl trim on my 2020 Kodiak Cub 185MB. Some people recommend using a product to coat the screw threads and the edges of the trim for additional weather protection. What sealant would be best to use for that application? Thank you!

Hey Sean,

RV sealant come in two styles: self-leveling # 34427034145-1 and non-sag # 344270341437-1. The self-leveling sealant is less viscous and will pool to cover the area it's applied to. This is great for anything on the roof. Non-sag is more viscous and will stick better to vertical applications so you'd want to use this on the walls of the trailer. Non-sag is going to be used the majority of the time when it comes to trim unless it's up on the roof and you have the space for it spread.

Hey Sean, how did things go using the non-sag sealant on the trim for your Kodiak Cub? Did it give you the weather protection you were hoping for around the screw threads and edges? Your update could make it easier for others working on the same kind of repair.

@JonG Thanks for reaching out. It went well. It doesn't look neat, mostly because of my poor application skills, but I think it's functional. The sealant is kind of stringy and doesn't smooth out. I wonder if there's a better application technique for these small areas?
