Troubleshooting Turn Signals Staying On Constantly With No Turn Function

Updated 11/17/2025 | Published 12/11/2024

Question:

I have a marker/turn light. It has a brown wire, red wire and a blade welded to the metal base part of the light. I assumed that the red is the hot, brown is neutral and the blade was the ground. I am getting a constant marker with no turn function. Any suggestions? Thank you all for your help.

Hello Aaron, thanks for reaching out. The functions you listed for your light are correct. There are a lot of lights that will ground thru the metal base or mounting hardware instead of having a ground wire. That said, as long as you are sure the red wire is connected to the turn signal circuit, the issue you are describing sounds like a bad ground. Check the metal blade and mounting hardware and make sure it is grounded to good clean metal free of any rust or paint. Make sure you are connected to the right circuit and check that ground and let me know how it goes.

Hey Aaron, did cleaning the ground connection on your marker light fix the turn signal issue? Your update could make it easier for others troubleshooting a similar wiring setup.
