Troubleshooting Curt Echo Brake Controller Causing Brake Light and Brakes Not to Work

Published 12/06/2024

Question:

Just bought the Echo and it worked fine one trip. Now when I apply my brakes no trailer brakes activate. If I use the manual button they work. Also when the echo is plugged in I only have one brake light. Now when I disconnect the echo all lights work properly. I just bought the camper today 2024 model and my truck is a 2020 ram. Terminals have been cleaned and without the curt unit all works.

Hey Ronny, thanks for reaching out!

Since we've narrowed it down to the Curt Echo # C51180, I recommend trying one more thing - using the Echo with a different trailer. If we can introduce a different element into the equation it will let us know for certain if the problem is with the brake controller or a different part of your towing rig.

If this does seem to be the brake controller itself then you'll need to reach out to Curt directly (https://www.curtmfg.com/contact) to see about the limited lifetime warranty that comes with the controller.

So this is my new trailer I just purchased on 12/5/2024 the problem started with the old camper. So two trailers tested on disconnect the echo and all works fine.

@RonnyF That definitely sounds like it's the Echo itself so I'd pursue the warranty if I were in your shoes. I'm not seeing that we have an order from you for this so I recommend reaching out to the company you purchased this from or Curt directly for the warranty.
