Question:
Looking to tow my 2019 Ford Fusion Energi behind my RV. Are you able to put together a recommendation for what is needed? I haven’t done this before but I believe I need a tow bar, base plate preferably one that requires the least cutting on the car and isn’t overly visible when not connected. Also, it looks like a brake controller and a battery charger of some sort. I appreciate your help in finding what will be right for us.

Hey Stephen, thanks for reaching out!
Getting the right parts for flat towing can definitely be a daunting task, but you're on the right track with the parts you listed out, and I'll be more than happy to make specific recommendations for you. Here are the parts I recommend picking up:
- Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-524458-5
- Roadmaster Nighthawk All-Terrain Tow Bar w/ LED Lights # RM-676
- Roadmaster Accessory Kit # RM-9284-2
- Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 (to keep your battery from draining)
- Brake Kit # DM86VR for RV Hydraulic Brakes or Kit # DM26VR for RV Air Brakes
- Brake-Lite Relay Kit # RM-88400 (so tail lights work properly)
- High-Low Adapter (see attached article - bar mount height is 12")
All of the base plate kits that fit your Fusion Energi are going to have basically the same installation as well as quality. The reason I recommend the Direct-Connect from Roadmaster is because it looks a little sleeker and is easier to connect/disconnect to in-use so it's the better option when it comes to living with the system.
The Nighthawk tow bar and Accessory Kit gives you everything you need for safely connecting your Fusion to the Motorhome, including the lighting, locks, a storage cover, and the matching tow bar to the base plate kit I mentioned above.
The reason I recommend the Demco brake kits is because they are a one-time installation and have a few quick connections that need to be made prior to towing. They also install out of the way so you won't notice them on your vehicle when you aren't towing your vehicle either - this gives you the safety you need without compromising the look of your vehicle.
Attached is a photo of the base plate kit on a Fusion as well as some videos for you to check out.

Hey Stephen, how did your flat tow setup for the Fusion Energi come together with the Roadmaster and Demco parts? It’d be great to hear how the connections and visibility turned out once everything was in place. Your update could make it easier for the next person setting up a similar tow system.
