Can I Use the Redarc BCDC1225D to Charge My Batteries and Keep My Solar Hook Up As Is?
Updated 11/30/2024 | Published 11/29/2024 >
Question:
I have an existing Renogy 200w solar set up, charging 2 6v 200ah batteries in a truck camper. I am wondering if I can keep my existing solar set up and add the Redarc bcdc1225d for charging from my trucks alternator? I realize this Redarc unit has solar capabilities, but I would like to keep the existing solar system as is. Would this be ok? Thank you for your help!

Hello Toby.
Yes, you can use the Redarc # 331-BCDC1225D to charge your batteries from you trucks alternator while still keeping your Solar set up as is.
What you are going to want to do is connect the # 331-BCDC1225D alternator input to your truck. You are going to leave the solar input unused. Your solar charge controller will still manage the solar power as usual, and the # 331-BCDC1225D will charge the batteries when your truck is running.

Thank you for the reply and what I should look out for in regard to charging voltage combo. If everything was hooked up to the red arc, it would keep it under 15v, correct? I just wanted to have two systems in case one failed, but might opt for one “do it all option” for simplicity.
