Is There A Trailer Hitch For 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid?

Question:
I am in the process of purchasing a 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid which is a new model this year. Can you tell me if the hitch you offer for a non-Hybrid CX-50 will fit the Hybrid CX-50?

Hello Rob, thanks for getting in touch. The hitches we offer for the 2025 Mazda CX-50 non-hybrid will NOT fit the hybrid model. For example, the Curt Class 3 Hitch # C38BR will fit all models of the 2025 CX-50 excluding the hybrid model. I was able to verify this with the manufacturer. There is no hitch for the hybrid model at this time.

Do you have an idea when a hitch for the 2025 CX-50 hybrid may become available?

Several owners in the CX-50 forums have slightly modified the OEM "lifestyle hitch" (part VC67-V3-920) from Mazda with addition of the CURT 49950 Weld-On Raw Steel Safety Chain Loop. The thinking is that Mazda corporate is avoiding towing with the CX-50 hybrid because of concern that some users would submerge the electric (AWD) rear wheel and hybrid battery with a small boat trailer on a boat ramp. If towing small boats and boat ramps are to be avoided for obvious reasons, and the specified 1500lb tow limit rating complied with for the hybrid, is there a structural reason that an installed "lifestyle hitch" (Mazda part VC67-V3-920) could not handle towing a small 5x8 utility trailer? If this thinking is reasonable and would not void warranty, the next question is what 4-pin wiring harness for trailer lights would be compatible with the Rav4 hybrid drivetrain inside the CX-50 HEV?

Uhaul made me an offer to build the custom hitch for the 2025 CX 50 Hybrid as a prototype for free. All I would have to do is take the vehicle to their facility in Arizona and leave it there for 5 days. Unfortunately, I live in RI and it would cost more to drive and stay there for 5 days than it would to wait!
