Question:
I have a 2016 Dodge Durango with the factory installed tow package. Could you point me in the right direction to set it up to pull a trailer with brakes? I’m looking at upgrading our kart racing trailer and my end up going to one that has brakes. I’m looking at simplicity to install and easiest on the wallet. I thought about the Bluetooth brake controller adapter, but the still doesn’t solve the problem of needing a 7 blade outlet. Any information is appreciated.

Hi Dan; since you have the tow package I expect there to be a wiring harness with a plug in the end of it which will connect to the # HM40975. Take a look behind your rear bumper and see if you have a wiring harness up underneath just like the installation video shows below at the 2:45 mark. If you have this wiring harness it will plug into the # HM40975 and solve your 7-way troubles.
Then for a brake controller I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24CR. The Liberty is incredibly reliable and easy to use. The main unit installs behind the dash so only the control knob is visible. This gives it an OEM look that won't take up space in the cab. It also comes with a custom wiring harness for a plug and play installation using the tow port under your dash. There are some extra steps since you have to mount it behind the dash but it's a one time installation so it is worth the extra effort once you're done.
The Bluetooth controllers like the # C51180 have their uses but it is best to wire one in so you don't have to suffer through potential connection issues when all you want to do is get on the road.

Hey Dan, how did things go with the 7-way connector and the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty on your Durango? Did the wiring harness behind the bumper match up the way the video showed? Your update could make it easier for others setting up a similar tow package.
