Clamp or U-Bolt Style Boat 60 inch Guide Ons

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/03/2024

Question:

I will be purchasing the 60inch guide on posts this winter to use on my boat lift. I have a choice of using the clamp on or the model with long U bolts. I am trying to figure out if one model would be stronger to use than the other. I have a Iinch beam frame, if I use the U bolts the posts support would be parallel on top of the channel for the whole length I guess about 12? . If I use the clamp type, the posts support would be the width of the clamp and would be perpendicular to the frame so it would be just the clamp and post width against the frame I guess 2-3 inches? . Any ideas if one would be a better choice for my needs? Thanks Joe

Hey Joseph, so my dad has the U-bolt style guide ons like the 60 inch part # CE27646 that you mentioned and they are very sturdy. Based on our experience with them I would highly recommend them over the clamp style.

Hey Joseph, how did the U-bolt style guide-ons work out on your boat lift? It’d be great to hear if they gave you the sturdy support you were hoping for. Your update could make it easier for others choosing between the two styles.
