Trailer Hitch for 2024 BMW X5 50e

Updated 12/23/2025 | Published 10/26/2024

Question:

I have 24 BMW x5 50e. BMW tells me I can not retrofit a hitch. I took that to mean there are not plugs for the wires. I was wondering if you guys could install a hidden hitch for both towing and bike rack for me. I saw the video where you installed one and the guy who did it on an x5 seemed to make it look easy. Hope hes available! to do the work lol. Im in San Diego but love a road trip. It may be a while though. Please advise.

Hi Carl; I'm not entirely sure what the BMW dealer meant but I can tell you it is possible to install a hitch and wiring on your 2024 BMW x5 50e. Assuming you do not have the true M model (probably isn't since the 50e is hybrid) you can use the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver w/ Towing Kit # SH25VR. If you have the M model you will need the # SH22MR instead.

If you're mechanically inclined you can follow our video and complete the installation yourself. We would also be happy to set that up somewhere down the road if you wanted to bring it to Wentzville, MO. If you don't want to make such a long trip you could use one of our local dealers. I went ahead and attached a link below which shows local hitch installers for the San Diego area. This was using the 92101 zip code but you can change it to your own zip if it is different and run a new search.

Hey Carl, did you end up getting the Stealth Hitch installed on your BMW X5 50e? I’m curious whether you went with a local installer or made the trip to Wentzville. Your experience could help others thinking about the same setup.

@RobinH No I never did. The BMW Guys were offputting when they said not It can not accept a hitch. I have another truck that can and for as long as I have that I will likely hold off.
