Auto Changeover Regulator Not Changing & Whistling

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 10/23/2024

Question:

Hello, I own a 2014 Palomino Columbus 5th wheel and when ever the furnace runs especially at night it make a loud low pitch whistling type of noise. A few years ago I asked the dealership to check it and replace if necessary. I thought they did but the noise never stopped. Whenever I use a gas appliance I can hear some sort of noise which I deemed normal, but the noise from the regulator which is basically under our bed or might as well be as it in the front compartment, is very noticeable and quite annoying. I dont know if the regulator is sized too small or what? It doesnt seem to hinder appliance usage. But, I must stop this aggravating noise while we are trying to sleep. I have it whining in one ear and my wife in the other! Lol.... Please, any advice would be so welcome! It is a two stage and I thought it was auto switching but it does not switch by itself. I dont have a pic of it and I am at work at present. I can supply one if needed. Thank you, Dale

Hi Dale,

With the regulator both whistling and not automatically changing over, the best course of action is indeed to replace it, as there seems to be some issue with it. Neither of those things are supposed to happen, so go ahead and change it out with the Automatic Changeover 2-Stage Propane Regulator # 37207-30395.

Hey Dale, how did things go after you replaced the propane regulator on your Palomino Columbus? Did the new one quiet down that whistling noise at night? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same issue.
