Recommended Carrier For Pelican 10' "Sit On Top" Style Kayak

Question:

I have a Toyota 4Runner and a Pelican sit on topinch nearly 10 ft long kayak. I bought this carrier and tried to load and transport my kayak today, but kayak does not sit well at all in the carriers, kayak is much wider than carriers. I went to look at other kayaks after unloading mine, because it will not ride well with these racks. it seemed most kayaks are wide like mine?? What are your thoughts and or recommendations? I am a newbie!!

Hello Karen, thanks for reaching out. The Malone SeaWing Kayak # MPG113MD you are using is a decent carrier for more standard kayaks, but I can see how the width of the carrier may not be ideal for the wider "sit on top" style kayaks. I wouldn't necessarily blame the kayak for the incompatibility.

Your best option here will be to go with a larger, more adjustable carrier. Something like the LockRack Series-X Universal Watersport Carrier # LR88FR will be a great option. It is adjustable up to about 42" wide, so it will work with even the wider kayaks. I have had great success using this rack in the past. Last year we used one with a larger "sit on top" style fishing kayak and it worked great. The arms are easy to adjust and they have rubber pads that help prevent any movement.

The LockRack carrier also uses less straps than other carriers. The carrier is also fully lockable as the name suggests. It will attach directly to the top channel on your Malone crossbars. The video below will give you a more in-depth look at the carrier. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.
