Where Is The Factory Brake Controller Plug On 2023 Ford Explorer With Factory Tow Package?

Updated 12/22/2025 | Published 09/28/2024

Question:

Hi. I just received my Redarc controller and TPH-006 harness Everything looks good, but the newest vehicle in the wiring instructions is for a 2018 Police Interceptor Utility. My 2023 Explorer with factory trailer towing is not listed at all. I spent 15 minutes under the dash looking for the factory connector with no luck. Could you point me in the right direction? There’s a knee air bag that makes it hard to see above. And when I find it, are there fuses/relays thatneed to be added? Thanks, Bruce.

Hello Bruce, I can certainly try to point you in the right direction. Ford is notorious for making their brake control ports hard to find. On the 2023 Ford Explorer with the factory tow package, the connector is located under the dash on the driver's side, right above where your right knee would be. The factory connector will be a rectangle and it should be grey in color. It may be wrapped in foam or electrical tape, or it may be taped up with other wires. I hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Hey Bruce, did you end up finding the factory connector for your Explorer’s brake controller? It can be tricky with that knee air bag in the way. Sharing what worked for you could really help others trying to locate the same plug.
