Difference Between the 22K B&W Companion and the 25K Companion for Flatbeds

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/26/2024

Question:

I have a RVK3050 with RVB3055 base and RVC3006 head from about year 2016. These combined are rated for GTW 22k and VTW 5.5k. The newerinch ones have same model numbers and is rated for 25k and 6.5k respectively. Were these just recertified at higher rating without any changes made? If so, what can be done so I can tow with the higher ratings and not be hassled by the sticker at lower rating? Id hate to buy a new one just for new stickers.

Justin, I'm not entirely sure what they did specifically to improve the weight rating, but from what I can find your 22k companion is the older model and has been phased out, so the 25K # BWRVK3050 is the newer and improved version.

To be able to get that 25k rating though, you'd need to swap your old one out with the newer one. There unfortunately isn't much else that can be done around that.

Hey Justin, did you end up swapping to the newer 25K Companion to get the higher weight rating? Knowing how that worked out could help others deciding between keeping their older hitch or upgrading.

@JesseM Hi Jesse, Ended upgrading to a custom Gen-Y Executive Gooseneck conversion hitch instead. I would have just bought the newer versions to get the higher ratings and not be hassled if it were ever to come into question. Thank you!

@Justin Thanks for the update, Justin. That makes sense. Glad to hear the Gn-Y hitch is working out for you. Appreciate you sharing what you ended up doing!
