Do Hitch Adapter/Reducers Require Two Hitch Locks

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/19/2024

Question:

I have a 2021 Toyota Tacoma with a 2 hitch. I have a reducer to 1-1/4 so I can use my bike rack. Do both of these sizes of hitch take the same size hitch pin? Can I get locking hitch pins that are keyed alike to lock the reducer and the bike rack? Thank you.

Hey Mark, if the hitch adapter is a sleeve adapter that a single hitch pin could fit through all you'd need is a hitch lock like the part # e98882. If there's now two hitch pins you'd want to use that hitch pin for the 2 inch part and then # e98879 for the 1-1/4 inch hitch opening.

You can order these two keyed alike as well so that a single key unlocks both.

Hey Mark, how did the keyed-alike hitch locks work out with your Tacoma and bike rack setup? Your results could help others trying to secure both a reducer and rack the same way.
