Solution for Needing Replacement Master Cylinder for Bullfrog Trailer Actuator

Updated 01/05/2026 | Published 09/18/2024

Question:

I have a tandem axle boat trailer with disc brakes. It currently has a BullFrog products actuator which doesn’t work, it say 8000 gvwr on the unit. Do you have a replacement or a master cylinder for it or would it be more economical and maybe easier to just replace the entire unit ?

Expert Reply:

We do not carry the Bullfrog brand of actuators so our best solution would be a new actuator like with the Dexter part # 099-175-20.

Hey, were you able to go with the new Dexter actuator for your boat trailer brakes? Knowing how that replacement worked out could help others deciding between repairing or swapping their old unit.

@JamesonC Yes, I did and it was an easy installation. The reason for the replacement was the master cylinder was leaking and would leak all the fluid out. I had another boat trailer that did the same thing, master cylinder went bad, I decided to rebuild the surge brake assembly and it ended up costing more than just replacing it. This new one seems to be working great. Hope this helps.
