Connectors Needed To Tie Into A Turn Signal Circuit

Updated 08/19/2024 | Published 08/13/2024

Question:

I have a 2004 Nissan Quest and I need to make a custom adapter for a European trailer separate turn signals and brake lights. Do you know where I can source the connectors and pins to patch into the turn signal harness? Thank you!

Hi Matt,

If you're saying that you need connectors to splice into the tail light wiring then we simply use heat shrink butt connectors. You'd cut the tail light wire and place one side in the butt connector, twisted together with your wire running to the 7-way and then place the other side of the tail light wire into the other side of the butt connector to complete the connection. These come in different sizes to fit various wire gauges:

22-18 Gauge # DW05743-10
16-14 Gauge # DW05744-10
12-10 Gauge # DW05745-10

You'll likely need either the # DW05744-10 or # DW05745-10 since you're splicing into a circuit and adding an extra wire.

If you're referring to the components built into the actual connector plugs then that's something we unfortunately do not offer but you could likely find at your local hardware store. I will also add that there are adapters on the market to go from a US 7-way to a European 7-way but we just don't currently offer them.

Hi Kevin, thank you for getting back to me. Yes, I need connectors and pins to make my own wire harness that will plug into the existing tail light harness. I don't want it to be permanent, so I prefer not to use butt connectors. I am just looking for a description of the actual connector so I can look them up and find the connector shell and pins. Right now I don't even know what to call them (Molex? ITT? etc.) to search for the proper part! Just like the white connectors on this part: https://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Nissan/Quest/2004/C55570.html?VehicleID=20041175139 https://images.etrailer.com/static/images/pics/c/5/c55570_5_1000.jpg https://images.etrailer.com/static/images/pics/c/5/c55570_4_1000.jpg Thank you! @Matt That's a tough question, no one really names them on our end besides just labeling it as a pigtail connector. I'd say Molex is probably the closest but it really depends on the vehicle. I would try reaching out to Nissan and asking what they label the connector as because there's a variety of different style plugs depending on the brand. Having whatever word they use would likely be the easiest way to find replacements, and Nissan might even be able to send you some. You might also be able to reach out to Curt and see if they offer replacement connectors in the event that they sent out a harness that had a broken one.
