Why Would Stromberg Carlson Fifth Wheel Landing Gear Shut Off Before Reaching Desired Height

Updated 08/18/2024 | Published 08/12/2024

Question:

I recently installed the upgraded landing jacks and motor on my Jayco 5th wheel. Everything works great however the motor shuts off before reaching the desired height. Why would that be happening? Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set - Weld On - 34-7/8 Lift - 6,500 lbs

Hey Carlos, are you sure the jack set hasn't reached the end of it's stroke and that's just where it is stopping? Does it make any odd sounds or slow down right before it stops?

Hows the battery on the trailer? Are the wiring connections from the landing gear to the battery solid.

I’m plugged into shore power and no it has never reached full extension. Wire connections are good. It will go up about 3-4” and just stop without slowing down. I’ll give it 20-30 seconds and it will go about 2-3” and stop. Kinda crazy but it’s happening.

@Carlos That sounds like it's overdrawing it's power source.

@JamesonC What would be the fix for this?

@Carlos Either the motor is bad and is wanting to draw too much power or the wiring/battery has issues. It sounds like your wiring and battery are probably in good shape so that makes me think the issue is the motor which we have as a replacement with the part # LG-142178.
