How Exactly do You Lock The UWS Replacement Fuel Cap for Transfer Tanks UWSCAPS

Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/07/2024

Question:

I see where you can insert a padlock into the cap, but the cap only requires about an 1/8th of a turn to open. How exactly are you supposed to lock this?

Hello Kyle,

If you take a look at the accompanying photo of the UWS Replacement Fuel Cap for Transfer Tanks # UWSCAPS you can see where the hole is for the padlock, and the small tab that juts out. So it locks by turning it all the way and putting the padlock through the hole, which catches on the tab and doesn't allow the cap to be turned.

Hey Kyle, did locking the UWS replacement fuel cap work once you turned it fully and used the padlock through the hole? Knowing how that setup worked for you could help others trying to secure their transfer tanks.

@GwendolynY This cap doesn’t lock for me because I added a 4” nipple and coupling to my tank in order to rest the fill nozzle while locked opened and still get the full 100 gallons. With the cap being raised like this, a padlock can be maneuvered around the tab enough to still open it. It does offer the appearance of it being locked though.
