Updated 01/19/2026 | Published 08/06/2024 >
Question:
If i install a bearing buddy in my gd rv do i take out the ezlube zerk or leave it in? Your sales department suggested these because recently my replaced 1.98 grease hubs are falling out. They sem Em to fit tight but now are also duck tape on to get me home she nicole said these are built better. The spindle bearings nuy and cotter pin and adjustment were fine rv this trailer over 30,000 miles packed the bearings ever two years and never had any isues untill last month. One trip lost 1 original cap replaced all 4 next trip lost 3 caps 90 miles from start of trip caps went on hard had to use a 4x4 to beat them on all the way. I DONT understand what changed have read other people had problems under warranty and lippert replaced the caps I tightent my wheel bearings to 50 ft lb then backed them off and put them hand tight wheel is not loose so im at a loss for 8 years i was giving the a little more preload till i read the correct way

John, to answer your question yes, you can take out the zerk fittings of your spindles so that you could install Bearing Buddies. But, you should note that Bearing Buddies commonly allow people to overfill their hubs with grease, which then turns into a blown out seal.

Hey John, how did things go after you removed the zerk fittings and added the Bearing Buddies to your trailer hubs? It’d be great to hear if that solved the issue with the caps coming loose. Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same problem.
