Tow Bar Recommendation to Flat Tow a 1990 Ford F-350

Updated 07/29/2024 | Published 07/28/2024

Question:

Looking for a tow bar to occasionally tow my 1990 F350 4 door 4WD long bed truck to a mechanic or other needs. The GAWR front is 4600 lbs, rear 6000 lbs. What tow bar do you recommend? I use a 2014 F250 6.7L or 1999 F550 7.3l to do the towing.

Hey Stephen, thanks for reaching out!

For bigger trucks I like to recommend a heavier class of tow bar like the etrailer XHD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e94ZR, rated for 10,500 lbs, as the extra weight rating gives a bit more peace of mind.

This tow bar is designed to work with etrailer and Demco base plate kits but I'm not seeing any base plate kits made for your truck so you'll need to have a shop help you fabricate something to work.

For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. If you do not have all of these components just let me know and I can make some additional recommendations for you.
