What Should Be Done With Handle Nuts After Installation - Can The Handles Be Removed?
Updated 02/03/2026 | Published 07/16/2024 >
Question:
On the 65050 kit, after torqueing all fasteners what should be done with the handle nuts? In video that part seems to be gone, will they just snap off with some bending?

Hey great question, Bill. When installing the # 65050 hitch it is normal to leave the handle nut right where it is, hanging thru the hole in the frame. You can trim off the handle with a grinder or something if you want to, or you can just bend it up out of the way. I do not recommend trying to bend it all the way off. The handle should not interfere with anything, so unless you want to remove it for aesthetic reasons you can just leave them where they are.
I looked over our video as well. This is an older video so the picture quality is not great, but if you look closely at about the 5:37 or 5:53 mark you can see the end of the handle nut hanging down thru the hole in the frame rail. So, I am thinking for this install they were left in place. Take a look at the screenshot below.

Hey Bill, how did things go with the handle nuts on your Draw-Tite front hitch after torqueing everything down? Your update could make it easier for the next person working with that same kit.
