Recommended Increased Tire Size For A Motorcycle Trailer

Updated 07/19/2024 | Published 07/15/2024

Question:

I need some help on replacing wheels and tires on my motorcycle trailer. They are 5 bolt wheels with 4.5 spacing. The tires say 12 - 4.8 on the side wall. I would like to go up just a little in size and would like to be able to pull long distances at 80+ MPH. I dont mind doing a little work on the fenders to raise them an inch or two if necessary. Can you please give me some size options that will travel on the highways well and not raise the trailer more than a couple inches? Thanks, Joe

Hey Joe,

With 4.80-12 tires you could go with a 5.30-12 tire size for a 1.5" increase in diameter which would raise the trailer about 3/4". The tires we have for this size with a speed rating capable of 80+mph aren't mounted so you would need to pick the tire # TT53012C and wheel # TA49RR separately or just have the tires mounted on your current wheels.

The # TT53012C is a radial tire so it'll perform well on the highway and provide a more comfortable ride quality than bias ply tires that you'd normally find in this sizing.
