I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch # 13514. The class III hitch has a 2-inch receiver, 4000-pound towing and 400-pound tongue weight capacity and bolts onto your Xterra's frame with no welding required.

You will also need a wiring harness. Which harness you require depends on whether your vehicle comes with a factory 7-way connector, a factory 4-way connector or without a factory 7-way or 4-way connector.
If your vehicle comes with a factory 7-way connector, you will need part # 118266.
To replace your factory 4-way, you will need part # C55441. If your vehicle comes without a factory 7-way or 4-way connector, you will need part # C56225.

The ball mount is separate, you will need part # 989900, which includes everything needed to tow multiple trailers, even of different heights. I have included a link to a video review of the ball mount for you to check out.
