Question:
I have a 16foot what used to be some sort of travel trailer stripped to the frame and used as a car hauler. Im repurposing as a utility ... Bottom line, I dont know much about it. Question it currently has, what Ive been able to find, Warner 10x2 electric brakes with donut style magnets on the rear axle magnet number 1102-631-003. Id like to replace these very, very worn shoes with something newer, but I dont know which ones because I dont know what the axle spindle is. I do know that it has Timken M12649 tapered front bearing and Timken LM12749 tapered rear bearing. Either I get new shoes cant find in my searches or replace with new electric brakes, hub, and drum. Recommendations??

Hello Ron, thanks for reaching out. After looking at your pictures and looking over the info you provided, I do have a solution for you, but I do have to recommend that you replace the brakes, hubs and drums. You will likely need to replace the spindles also, if not the entire axle. The Timken M12649 and LM12749 bearings are not used in trailer manufacturing anymore, and while bearing replacements may be available elsewhere, we unfortunately do not carry them here.
The same will go for the brake shoes. That style of brake assembly is just not made anymore, so the whole assembly will need to be replaced. The standard brake size is the 10" x 2-1/4" like our part # AKEBRK-35-SA. These will bolt up to a 4-bolt brake flange, which it appears is what you have. I do suggest that you confirm the bolt spacing on the current brakes just to be sure. The standard 4-bolt brake flange has holes 2-7/8" apart across, or 4" apart on center diagonally as you can see in the picture below. As long as your brake flange matches this, the # AKEBRK-35-SA brakes will work great.
That brings us to the hubs. You will need new hubs in order to use the new brakes I mentioned. The Timken M12649 and LM12749 bearings are not used anymore, which means your hubs and spindle are obsolete. There are no hubs that will work with these bearing sizes, and there are no substitutes available for the bearings. For these reasons, I recommend that you replace the spindle with something more common like part # TRU74FR. This is a standard 3,500 lb axle which can be used with the # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K hub/drum assembly. This drum will be compatible with the brakes I mentioned above. Just keep in mind that new spindles do need to be installed professionally.
If you want to look into replacing the axle entirely, I will need to know the hub face length and spring center distance for the current axle. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions.

Hey Ron, how did things turn out with replacing the old Warner brakes and hubs on your trailer? Were you able to confirm the bolt spacing and move forward with the new 3,500‑lb setup? Your update could make it easier for others working with older axles like yours.
