Will Swagman XTC2 Bike Rack Work with Bike That Has Step-Through Frame

Updated 02/17/2026 | Published 06/15/2024

Question:

Hello, I have a Yakima hanging rack which does not fit a ladys bike comfortably or safely. Is your Swagman XTC2 platform rack more likely to work? Do the holding arms go down low enough to secuare a ladys bike which has lower cross bars? Or is some extra arm attachment needed? Thanks

Hey Tage, thanks for reaching out!

The Swagman XTC2 # S64670 and XTC2 TILT # S64671 bike racks are able to accommodate lower step-through frames like what is sounds like you're describing. I found a photo another customer submitted in their review where you can see that the place where the arm secures the outermost bike is almost in line with the axles for the bike wheels.

If you really like your current Yakima hanging-style rack then you might be able to use the Yakima Tube Top Bike Adapter Bar # Y02531 as an alternative to getting a whole new bike rack. This bar will secure the bike by the seat post and handlebars and provide a horizontal bar to make it easier to secure to the arms of the bike rack.

Hey Tage, how did things go with the Swagman XTC2 rack and your step-through bike? It’d be great to hear if the arms reached low enough to hold it securely. Your update could make it easier for others choosing between a platform and hanging rack.
