Does Brake Output Circuit of 7-Way Need to be Active for Curt Echo Mobile C51180 to Function

Question:

Hopefully you can help. So I have a 2008 Ford Escape XLT w/ factory tow package and 4 pin adapter. I installed an adapter myself - 4 pin to 7pin. Recently Bought a popup camper with electric brakes. The popup has a 7 way plug. Its my understanding that when I hook up and drive, Im not engaging the electric brakes because that pin doesnt have any power going to it. Is that correct? Was thinking about purchasing a separate brake controller mounted underneath the dash, but then I have to run the wires from the adapter to the battery and to the brake controller. My question is: would this wireless brake controller activate the electric brakes with my current set-up??? Im thinking not, because I dont have power going to that pin. But then on the other hand I wonder if this wireless brake controller can take the power from the 12V AUX pin and transfer it to electric brake pin. Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, ~Heath

Hey Heath, so the Curt Echo Brake Controller part # C51180 would work great for you. It only needs the 7-way to have the stop/turn circuits and the 12 volt accessory circuit active to operate the trailer brakes. It does not need the vehicle side of the 7-way wiring to have any connections on the brake output circuit as this basically creates that entire circuit within itself.
