Is what looks like a filter behind the metal grid replaceable or can itbe vacumned without damaging it?

Hey Randi. The front of the Camco Olympian Wave 3 Catalytic Safety Heater # CAM57331 can indeed be vacuumed if it is dirty. I would do so very carefully with a brush attachment making sure to avoid direct contact with the heating element.
