Troubleshooting a Curt Discovery Brake Controller That Has Jerky Brakes  

Question:

I have a 2014 toyota tundra with a curt discovery brake controller and I am having problems with the brakes grabbing all of a suddenafter I have driven a few hundred miles. do you have any suggestions on what it could be? the brakes and drums look good.

Wes, it could be possible that your brakes are jerky after they are warm because you adjusted them while they were cold. So what you can do recommended to warm the brakes by applying the manual lever for a bit while driving at slow speed; once they're warmed you can adjust them properly.

Another possibility is that the delay is set too long on the controller. I'd suggest trying to set the delay to activate sooner and see if that fixes it. If all that does not work, then there could be an internal problem with the brake controller itself.

What controller would you recommend? I tow a two axle travel trailer with a 2014 tundra model 1794.

@WesleyW The Curt Discovery would work fine with your trailer, so I don't see a reason to get rid of it. If you were, the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 would be what I'd get. These have been super popular in the industry for a number of reasons, but If you're in the market this is what I'd get.
