The Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 31180 is only designed to fit a 2001 - 2007 Toyota Sequoia and a 2000 - 2006 Toyota Tundra.
Since you have a 1996 GMC Sonoma you need the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver # 31021 which is a custom fit so you don't need to do an drilling or cutting to get it installed.
