How to Reduce Trailer Bounce on Enclosed Trailer With Torsion Axle
Published 02/22/2024 >
Question:
Do you have a suggestion on reducing trailer bounce on an enclosed trailer with torsion axel? My tires show signs of bounce and I would like to avoid early replacement. Do I need to just deadhead with water ballast ? tks

If your tongue weight is too light, and it sounds like you might be aware of the fact that it is, that is likely the problem. Adding weight to the front so you're at that 10-15% of the trailer weight would go a long way in reducing trailer bounce. If your trailer itself is really light and you aren't carrying heavy loads that could also be a part of the problem, so the extra weight would kill two birds with one stone.
Since you have torsion axles you can't really add anything to the suspension to help mitigate the bounce. You could try a shock absorbing ball mount like # C83WR. This would help absorb a little bit of that but I wouldn't see it as an absolute fix. I would also make sure the trailer is level when towing. An adjustable ball mount like this would allow you to level out if you aren't already.
