Can The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger RED96FR Be Used For Marine Batteries

Updated 02/22/2024 | Published 02/20/2024

Question:

Will this charge two marine batteries? I have a special converter on my camper, because of limited space, I have two different sized marine deep cell batteries connected together. Would this work to charge or would it burn it up or cause the smaller battery to overheat?

The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # RED96FR can be used to charge marine batteries. That said, we never recommend using two different size batteries regardless of how they are connected together. So in order to use this charger with your current setup you would need to disconnect the batteries from each other on order to charge. That or get a new battery so you can have two batteries of equal capacity. This would allow you to use the charger as intended.

Hard to say exactly what would happen if you were to hook the charger up to your current setup, but it likely would cause problems with the smaller battery overcharging. We never install batteries in this way so it is not something we have ever or will ever put to the test.
