Does Curt Crosswing Fifth Wheel Hitch Provide Additional Tailgate Clearance

Question:

Will the curt gulf wing fifth wheel hitch with the tailgate down give me more room between the tailgate and the trailer. I have a chevy 3500 crew cab and right now I use and anderson ultimate hitch and with the tailgate down there is only about 3 inches of clearance separating the tailgate from the rv.

Fifth wheel towing is not supposed to be done with the truck's tailgate down. This would cause clearance issues between the trailer and the tailgate which would damage the tailgate pretty quickly around corners. Normally you would lower the tailgate to back up and connect to the fifth wheel hitch and then you would raise the tailgate after.

The Curt Crosswing part # C92DR was not designed to provide additional clearance.
