Towing a trailer with brakes will require adding a hitch, 7-way wiring, and a brake controller to your 2024 Jeep Compass. I recommend the following:
-etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e48AR
-Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236
-Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7
-Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR
The etrailer hitch is a Class III hitch with a bolt-on installation. It has a matte black powder coat finish for a rugged look and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. The Curt wiring harness will give you a 4-way which is the first step to adding a 7-way. The # ETBC7 comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you need to upgrade your 4-way to a 7-way.
The Liberty is a simple and reliable brake controller that won't take up a lot of space in your vehicle. The main unit installs behind the dash so you only see the knob. This also gives it an OEM look. The knob acts as the manual override and controls the braking power. You will also need the # RED69FR for installation.
In order to complete your setup you will also need a ball mount. Check out the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This kit has two ball mounts, one with a 3/4" rise or 2" drop and the other with a 2-3/4" rise or 4" drop. It also comes with a 1-7/8" and 2" ball, as well as a ball mount bag to store everything in.
