I just wanted to know if this device will work without the display that is sold separately.

The Edge Pulsar V3 L5P Inline Tuner # EP22AR can be used without a display on your 2017 Chevy Silverado 2500. To configure your settings you'll use your steering wheel controls and then your speedometer as a "monitor" to navigate the menus and settings.
While this does save you some money, I can see how it could get pretty frustrating to deal with and try to remember all of the navigating as opposed to having a monitor like what you get in the complete kit # EP34KR. Ultimately it all boils down to how much money you're wanting to invest and how confident you are at managing the controls without the CTS3 monitor.
