Question:

I have a Honda CRV small SRV that is rated to pull up to a 2000 pound trailer. The owners manual says that if the trailer weighs more than 1000 pounds, then trailer brakes are required. I have a small boat on a trailer I want to pull which weighs a total of 1500 pounds together. Do you have surge brakes I could put onto the trailer for this low weight? I see your surge brake controllers work with trailers weighing much more than that, but nothing about lower limits on trailer weight. I have seen small surge controllers on trailers in boat yards in Germany and Spain that are similar in size to what I have. These controllers are rather small and seem to not be what I can find in the US. What can I buy in the US for a small trailer pulled by a small SUV not a truck-based SUV so much lower towing capacity? I will have a professional install it all to be sure it is done right.

You simply need to ensure you use a surge brake assembly which is designed for lighter trailers. The Demco # DM62VR is rated for trailer up to 7,00lbs and Disc Brakes # KOD27FR. You will also likely need a 4-way to 5-way Adapter # C57187 for your Honda CR-V as this actuator has an electric lockout so the brakes will not activate when you back up.

The Disc Brakes # KOD27FR above was designed to be used on a spindle using Bearings # L44649. If your trailer uses different size bearings please let me know so I can direct you to the correct disc brake kit.
