Can LED Lights on Reese Trailer Connected Adapter Drain Vehicle Battery
Updated 08/29/2023 | Published 08/28/2023 >
Question:
THe three small led lights on my Reese trailer light connector are always on. Otherwise everything works as normal. Once I turn the key the lights function as normal showing what is on. When I turn off the key all three stay on. Since I cannot find a short, my question is whether these three tiny lights could in any way drain the battery ? Or if there is a short that may drain the battery ? my battery just died a bit early and I wondered. Thank you

Expert Reply:
The Reese Trailer Connector Adapter # 78118 will not drain your vehicle battery. The power draw from the LED lights is next to nothing so it isn't a concern. In fact, that may be why the lights are staying on. If there is lingering power after you turn off the vehicle it could keep the lights illuminated for quite a while. Try checking a few hours later to see if they are still on. Even if they are, again, it won't be pulling enough power to drain your battery. If it makes you feel better you can always pull out the adapter when it is not in use.
